KASHMIR
After Delhi and Agra we decided to head up to the Kashmir region. This is an Indian territory that is disputed...some think it should be in India, some think Pakistan, and others think they should be independent....i think they should just shut the fuck up and keep making awesome sweaters (this is where the material cashmir comes from). Anyway besides being the most beautiful place in India its also the most dangerous. There are always shellings from pakistan or bombings from people who want a Kashmiri state. We were in the Srinigar area which is a city set on a few lakes in the middle of the mountains. Back in the day the brits wanted to live here but were not permitted to own land, so they made houseboats. They still exist today and there are tons of them. We stayed on one for 4 days, its awesome, we had one w 2 bedrooms, 2 bath, living room, dining room and chilling area out front. They cook you amazing Indian food and serve you kashmiri tea all day. You can take trips into the mountains or just float around the lake and check out the sites all day.
I love this picture, unedited like every other picture (i wish i knew how to use photoshop though)
Here is our houseboat, the Kings Boat owned by Nazir and Sons
The front chill area of our boat
The sites
We took a trip up into the mountains..the Sonamarg region...amazing place, snow everywhere and the weather was in the low 80s....perfect
Crazy Shit...on the way back down the mountain there was a roadblock. The people of this town on the way home had been without eletricity for 3 months and were pissed so they blocked the road. We were a little spooked at first, what with all the chants of Alahu Akbar (god is great), but our driver told us it was cool and we got out and joined in...i mean no power for 3 months...how do they charge their ipods and play xbox......anyway they liked us so much they let us through, how nice....great people though
The last day we took a boat trip around the backwaters...the innards of the town most tourists dont see...despite it looking slightly run down, the colors of India shot out that much more.
